San Jose del Cabo
This sleepy, historic town is the head municipality to the Los Cabos destination. Los Cabos is divided into two cities, the livelier Cabo San Lucas to the west, and the more quiet and historical town of San Jose del Cabo to the east. With a natural freshwater lagoon as an oasis and all of its surrounding vegetation, it is easy to understand how San Jose has become such a traveler's paradise.
The modern day San Jose del Cabo is different now from the old colonial-era town it once was. However, its touristy side, the historic downtown district, is still limited to a small area perimeter that is easy to access and enjoy.

San Jose del Cabo has managed to remain a secluded and favorite hideout for those who seek a more relaxed and romantic setting. It is also home to a multicultural and artistic community, adding more color to its traditional colonial Mexican roots.
When visiting San Jose del Cabo, make sure to stop by the La Esquina del Café coffee shop for a great cup of freshly brewed java. We've found it to be a hidden little secret in town for a delicious cappuccino or ice-cold frappe. It is located on Valerio Gonzalez Street, a few steps away from Blvd. Mijares, the road that leads to the heart of the historic district. Ask for Jorge or Lupita. They are at their shop from Monday through Friday, 7 am to 8 pm.

After your morning joe, take a walk downtown and visit the vast amount of shops and galleries that San Jose's historic downtown has to offer. There is a small open-air market on Blvd. Mijares, showcasing handmade souvenirs by artisans from mainland Mexico at reasonable prices.

There are several silver shops on this avenue, a leather goods store, a cigar shop where you can pick up imported Habano cigars, real estate offices for those looking to invest and a handful of the best restaurants in Los Cabos, such as Don Emiliano and Tropicana. Check out our dining section to learn more about local restaurant venues.
